WHAT SHOULD I TAKE SKIING?

START WITH A BASE LAYER -YOUTH SET £17 ADULT SET £25

Thermal long sleeve top and long johns should be worn next to the skin for comfort and warmth. The main purpose is to keep you dry: nothing makes you colder than damp clothing next to the skin.Thermal clothing is very un-absorbent and transfers moisture away from the skin (A process known as wicking). This is an essential item of clothing

MID LAYER, SEVERAL THIN LAYERS KEEP YOU WARMER THAN ONE THICK ONE - FROM £18

Add one or two layers of micro fleece /brushed back stretch long sleeve tops. Thin layers are better at trapping warm air to give warmth without bulk. Layering gives flexibility, carry a rucsac up the mountain and you can add or remove layers during the day. Long johns and ski trousers are sufficient for the legs.

FINISH WITH WATERPROOF, BREATHABLE JACKET AND TROUSERS

Your ski outfit is finished off with warm, technical trousers and jacket.

Features to look out for are:

The cuff of your jacket and hem of your trousers should both be adjustable to prevent snow getting up your jacket sleeves or trouser legs

A high collar which you can zip up will protect your lower face on the coldest days.

A flap under or over jacket zip to keep out the snow and wind.

Taped seams to prevent water penetration

A snow skirt which fastens over the hips under your jacket prevents snow going up your back if you fall over!
